This generation represents an evolution of the successful characteristics of its predecessor rather than a total revamping of them. For starters, the dimensions of the new sedan G are practically identical : the wheelbase and length remain unchanged at 2.85 and 4.75 meters respectively. However, it is slightly wider and less high. It is still available as rear or all-wheel drive. The engine offered in the sedan at the launch of this generation in 2007 was the same 3.5 liter V6 used in the G35 2003-2006 except that it produced a higher 306 horsepower. The name change to G37 from G35 corresponds to the introduction of a new V6 engine, with 3.7 liters instead of 3.5. A new convertible version of the Coupe G37 is commercialized starting halfway through 2009.
The lines are more dynamic and bold than in the 2003-2006 generation. Infiniti takes advantage of the revamping of the G to give the sedan a rear more similar to that of the Coupe, which according to critics was more successful than the one in the sedan of the previous generation. This enhancement makes the sedan far more attractive, less subdued and less bland. Even though the Coupe has the same wheelbase as the sedan, it is shorter, less high and wider than the sedan, making it look more compact and athletic.
The cabin of the G 2007- showcases a net improvement over that of the previous generation. The craftsmanship and the quality of the materials used show tremendous improvement. While Nissan/Infiniti is still not up to par with the Lexus or Audi cabins, they are definitely on the right track.
