Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) was founded in Germany in 1916. This enterprise was initially a manufacturer of airplane engines, which is highlighted in the BMW logo, inspired by a propeller. The enterprise was forced to modify its vocation after Germany’s loss during World War 1, where it was banned from producing airplanes and engines for the German market. As a result, the company redirected its efforts towards the automobile market. Today, the BMW brand is synonymous with performance, prestige and luxury. The arrival of Chris Bangle as head designer in the early 2000’s moved the Bavarian brand towards a far more daring style than that of earlier models. While many long-term followers of the brand hollered in protest, time proved otherwise, rewarding BMW with significantly greater sales in the years that followed.
