The sedan G was introduced by Infiniti in 1991 under the name G20 because of its 2.0 liter engine. It was commercialized under that name as entry model into the Infiniti brand until 2002. The G undergoes major transformations starting with the 2003 model year. It is thereafter derived from the popular Nissan Skyline (not commercialized in Canada), which greatly changes the essence of the car. As such, the power and cylinders of the engine increase drastically and its design becomes much more dynamic. Additionally, a coupe version (2 door) is added to the offerings. This generation of the G (2003-2006) has significantly rejuvenated and redefined the Infiniti brand.
