The Grand Turismo replaces the Maserati Coupe/GranSport (and its convertible configuration called Spyder) starting with the 2008 model year. It is built on a revised Maserati Quattroporte chassis, its big sister. The exterior design of the GranTurismo is somewhat similar but less radically sporty than that of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (both Maserati and Ferrari being held by the Fiat group). The Ferrari boasts much higher performance because of its exclusive motor, its tunings as well as its smaller dimensions and weight. The GranTurismo leans more heavily toward comfort rather than radical sports driving and this in spite of its non-negligible 0-100. A higher performing version of the GranTurismo, the "S" is commercialized starting with the 2009 model year.
