While there was a first Jaguar S-Type commercialized during the 60’s, the "modern" S-Type is an entirely new model introduced in 1999 as a 2000 model car.  The S-Type positions itself as an alternative to the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Cadillac Seville, Lexus GS, Mercedes E-Class and Volvo S60/S80.  The last model car offered was the 2008, the S-Type then taking a final bow and being replaced by the new and modern XF.
